A trusted partner in promoting and preserving water security

Iv3 Aqua is the owner and operator of the Qurayyat Independent Water Project, located in Qurayyat, Sultanate of Oman. At the heart of this project is the 200,000 cubic meters per day seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant (QDC). QDC’s offtaker is Nama Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (PWP), the exclusive purchaser of water from all Independent Water Projects across Oman.

Using SWRO technology to build resilience into a critical water supply

The plant plays a pivotal role in supplying water to the Muscat Zone, one of the three major water supply zones within Oman’s Main Interconnected System (MIS). This integrated network services the most densely populated areas in Oman, including its capital city, Muscat, where 1.7 million people live. QDC is highly ranked among the largest SWRO plants globally, placing in the top 4% of desalination plants worldwide.

Oman Vision 2040

“Oman Vision 2040” is a comprehensive socio-economic policy framework guiding the nation’s development over the next two decades and achieving water security stands as a crucial objective. “Oman Vision 2040” recognizes the imperative of leveraging advanced technologies like SWRO to address pressing challenges, including agricultural demands and the impact of climate change, which have led to groundwater depletion and water quality deterioration due to saltwater intrusion. As Oman navigates its transition towards a clean energy economy, particularly focusing on hydrogen, QDC emerges as a key strategic partner in managing water security and facilitating sustainable social and economic growth in a region grappling with water stress.
