Job summary
The Project Manager will be responsible for leading and coordinating projects related to the design, construction, commissioning, upgrading, expansion and optimization of water and wastewater treatment facilities. This role requires a deep understanding of water treatment processes, strong project management skills, commitment to safety and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams to ensure successful project delivery.
Key responsibilities
Project development, planning and initiation
- Assist in developing the pipeline of opportunities, primarily acquisitions, by meeting with potential clients/partners, conducting technical site visits, and reviewing engineering data to develop proposals, project agreements or other deliverables.
- Conduct comprehensive project assessments to understand client requirements, define scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Develop detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.
- Initiate project kick-off meetings to align stakeholders and teams on project goals and objectives.
Team leadership
- Assemble and lead cross-functional project teams, including engineers, contractors, consultants, and other specialists.
- Provide clear direction, guidance, and support to team members throughout the project lifecycle.
- Foster a collaborative and results-oriented team culture with a strong commitment to safety.
Resource management
- Efficiently allocate resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Monitor resource utilization and adjust as necessary to meet project milestones.
- Collaborate with HR for resource planning and staff training/development.
Risk management
- Identify potential risks associated with project execution and implement proactive risk mitigation strategies.
- Communicate risk assessments to stakeholders and ensure risk management plans are followed.
Communication
- Establish and maintain effective communication channels with senior management, internal teams, clients, and regulatory authorities.
- Provide regular updates on project progress, milestones achieved, and any challenges faced.
- Resolve conflicts and facilitate clear and open communication among team members and stakeholders.
Schedule, budget and cost control
- Develop and manage project schedules and budgets, ensuring project KPI’s (e.g., financial objectives, schedule performance) are met.
- Monitor project expenses and implement cost-control measures as needed.
- Provide accurate and timely budget reports to senior management.
Quality assurance and compliance
- Ensure that projects adhere to contractual specifications, industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Implement and oversee quality assurance processes to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Conduct regular inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety practices, and regulatory requirements.
Stakeholder relations
- Build and maintain positive relationships with project stakeholders by understanding their requirements and expectations. Project stakeholders may include senior management, internal teams, clients, regulatory authorities, suppliers, contractors, consultants, and other advisors.
- Address stakeholders’ concerns promptly and professionally.
- Provide regular updates to clients and senior management on project status and progress.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including plans, reports, and correspondence.
- Prepare comprehensive project reports, including progress reports, risk assessments, and project closure reports.
- Ensure all documentation complies with company standards and industry regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. The preferred candidate will have a strong background in process engineering and a good understanding of industrial automation.
- Proven experience in project management, specifically in water treatment projects. Experience with large-scale SWRO desalination projects is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of water treatment processes, technologies, and industry standards.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desirable.
- Proficiency in project management tools and software.
- Possess keen familiarity with cultural norms within the MENA region.
- Strong fluency in written and spoken English is required; fluency in Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese and/or French is desirable.
- Ability to travel internationally to support existing projects and new business development is required.
